2020 Italian MX Prestige - RND #2, Castiglione del Lago

Arangio Febbo and Pedica struggle in the mud, scoring points only in the second heats.

After the opening round in Faenza, the Italian MX Prestige Championship returns on the last weekend of August for the second round of this short 2020 season. The designated track is the 'Vinicio Rosadi' of Castiglione del Lago, nestled on the Umbrian hills in the province of Perugia.

Team Diana MX, orphan of Matteo Giarrizzo # 221 out due to injury, fielded only Giuseppe Arangio Febbo # 30 in the MX2 Fast class while in the MX1 Fast, the veteran Luca Pedica # 717 puts aside for a moment the role of 'riders coach 'and get back in the saddle.

On a track in perfect condition, on Saturday the drivers compete in free and timed practice. In the MX2 Fast Giuseppe gets a 9th and a 13th time respectively and hits the qualification in group A. Luca, in the MX1 Fast, gets a 12th and 9th time and he also gains access to group A.

In the early afternoon, the drivers compete in the second heats and the track is smoother than in the morning. In MX2 Fast Giuseppe starts well and is 16th in the fourth lap. On the deeply marked track, however, it is easy to make mistakes and Giuseppe runs into a heavy fall that definitively compromises his final result. After the comeback with thedamaged bike, he finds himself 30th on the finish line. With a 34th place in the day, he is now 25th on the calendar. In the MX1 Fast, Luca's race was also discreet as he immediately remained in the 'top 20' until the fifth lap. Then a small physical drop causes him to suffer some overtaking and on the finish line, he conquers the 26th final position.

The second round of the Italian MX Prestige Championship is scheduled for the weekend of 12 and 13 September in Ponte a Egola, tracked in the municipality of San Miniato in the province of Pisa.

Giuseppe Arangio Febbo # 30: “The race in Castiglione del Lago is all uphill for me this weekend. In the first heat I got a good start but an opponent on the ground after the first corner blocked me and I started again among the last ones. I was recovering well and quickly but then a technical problem with the bike caused by a lot of mud forced me to retire. In the second heat I got a bad start but my race pace was good; unfortunately a bad crash when I was 16th put me back and I never recovered. I wasn't able to express myself at my best, I felt comfortable in the saddle and I wanted to do well. Now I will work even more in view of the round of Ponte a Egola. "

Luca Pedica (Riders Coach): “Saturday went well with Giuseppe who ran strong in qualifying. Unfortunately, after the storm on Sunday, the track was really very difficult and he retired due to a problem with his bike but with the track in those conditions, half of the riders in the race retired. In the second heat the track was very marked and Giuseppe started from behind. In recovery he crashed and finished the heat with the bike a little damaged. Definitely not a positive day for us as results but as experience, these are difficult races that make you grow a lot, as a driver and as a team. As for my race, it was nice to be back behind the gate just for fun. I tried to complete the two heats and test some pieces that the guys will then use. "

Paolo Pignataro (Team Manager): "The storm on Saturday night mixed the cards a bit, making the track very difficult and the final result also a 'lottery'. After a good qualifying, in fact, Giuseppe was unlucky in race 1 when a driver crashed in front of him and hindered him. Then the mud did the rest… In race 2 Giuseppe wanted to make up for the bad result of the first stage and under pressure he made a mistake. Now let's look ahead and work towards the last two tests in Ponte a Egola and Cingoli. "
